SATURDAY 17 NOVEMBER – SANDWICHES
It’s happening in every corner of the globe. Deep bass frequencies are rattling chests and expanding minds. From original roots reggae culture to today’s explosive dubstep scene, sub bass is the foundation of all that is rich and heavy in music. It’s powerful and it’s positive - bringing people together to celebrate sound.
Digital Mystikz, true pioneers of dubstep, push the sound of sub bass like no others. “You can’t put man in a room with no subwoofers, DMZ’s Mala states simply. “There’s nothing better for me than being in a dance with a solid soundsystem. It’s music for your mind and for your body.
It’s this passion and purist attitude that drives DMZ’s success, not only as artists, but as the brains behind the progressive record label and London’s largest and most infamous dubstep club night.
Drawing on a love of reggae, jungle, hip hop and deep house, DMZ’s tunes are cavernous explorations, melodic contemplations, strict dancefloor vibrations. They are showcased by BBC Radio1 DJs and have featured in films like the sci-fi thriller Children of Men. These are the riddims of the future, and Mala returns to our shores to lay down the dubplate freshness.
Since gracing Aotearoa with his presence earlier this year, Mala’s hectic schedule has taken him around the planet - through Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East – and where he goes he blazes a trail of sub bass for our collective meditation.
Joining us from Auckland just for the occasion is legendary selectah Stinky Jim. 95bfm DJ institution, member of the original Bureau de Bashment Soundsystem, producer and label owner, Stinky is renowned for his block party mashups of roots, dancehall and dubstep vibes. Local rudebwoy Sticky Fingaz will nice up the dance hip hop stylee, while Aotearoa’s very own heavyweight dubstep and breaks reps JRed and Strictly 138 will make this one event you cannot sleep on!
Digital Mystikz are undisputed champions of sound. Come and experience frequencies reverberating through your body and your mind as you are taken on an unforgettable journey through bass and space.
“Anything goes, as long as it has a driving bassline and is played very, very loudly– The Observer UK
