SCUBA, aka Paul Rose, is the founder of the influential and consistently high quality Hotflush Recordings. From playing a part in the formative years of the sound on the pirate airwaves in London, to working dancefloors across the globe, to a swathe of excellent releases on Hotflush and the high profile Soul Jazz imprint, Scuba brings his own unique musicality to the dubstep sound. Always fresh and innovative, Scuba’s recent output is at once melodic and musical and devastatingly heavy.

The Hotflush label has been a creative incubator for some of the most original and foward-thinking producers in dubstep including the likes of Distance, Toasty, Slaughter Mob, Vaccine, Gravious, Marlow, Boxcutter and Jazzsteppa. Hotflush along with Paul Rose’s other imprints - Abucs, Scuba and HF2 - can always be relied on to push the dubstep sound in new and exciting directions.

With his debut full length artist album “A Mutual Antipathy”, dropping on April 7, already being hailed as a masterwork - Scuba’s record bag will be bursting with exclusive dubs of uncompromising calibre.

With Wellingtons Strictly138 crew and Funkdamunk bringing fresh NZ Dubs to the table this will be an epic night of deep atmospheric dubstep vibes to nice up the dance.

This is Scuba’s only NZ date. Don’t sleep!

Blambox Audio & Step’A are proud to announce the arrival in April of Dunedins first international dubstep artist to our city. He is the man they call DJ N-TYPE!!!

N-Type is a DJ/producer/label owner who reigns from deep in the south of England. He began mixing drum and bass in the late 90’s at the age 14. As music evolved he was highly influenced by darker 2-step garage.

His shows have always concentrated on good vibes and giving the best music and talent the recognition they deserve. He is always up to date with a wide selection of dubs from the finest producers. His attention has now focused on production and he has now signed several tunes to other labels including, Dubpolice, Southside, Tempa and is currently on his second release on his own label Terrain Records.

He plans to develop his production skills and expand his label in the coming years, and has already negotiated releases with artists such as Benga, Skream, Omen, Ironsoul, Kromestar, Cess, Walsh.

His tunes have been gaining support from all the big DJ’s on the circuit and recently had BBC Radio 1 airplay thanks to Mary Anne Hobbs who made his production “Tolerance” Breezeblock Bomb which is due for release on the Tempa Allstars Ep!

At Christmas 2006 the Dubstepforum.com awards started taking nominations, when the votes were counted N-Type won Best DJ and Best Radio Show 2006.

In 2007 N-Type was then given the opportunity by Ammuntion and Tempa to mix the 5th installment of Dubstep Allstars 5. The mix was released in the summer and took the critics by storm! This was a sure sign of the growth of the music and the respect it was getting! You can get the mix online or in HMV, Virgin and all good record stores…

FRIDAY APRIL 18TH
GALATOS

NTYPE is without question dubstep’s most lethal DJ.
Know for is white hot 30 dubs per hour mix rate he promises to bring the sound of the london pirate underground direct to Auckland for this exclusive one-off show.

Originally a junglist, then a massive dark garage fan, NTYPE has been a regular at FWD since it;’s inception, his love for the scene growing organically as it went from localised sound to global phenomonen.

His hyperactivity behind the decks and mind blowing technical ability is legendary.
His infamous Sub Sundays radio show on RINSE FM has topped the polls on the annual dubstepforum awards, picking up best radio show two years running, while his ability to smash the rave throughout the UK, Europe, the US and Japan has also garnered him Best DJ by his dubstep peers.

Ntype’s deft skills culminated in his now seminal mix on Dubstep Allstars Volume 5. In a little over One Hour he rifled through 38 dubs taking in all styles from vocal cuts, wide angle wobblers, crunching half time steppers, deep future dubs and tear out rave bizness.

Not content, NTYPE has hit the studio, unleashing tunes on Tempa, Dubpolice and his own Terrain imprint with a slew of releases planned for 2008.

NType is a dubplate dj. That alone guarantees one thing. Strictly exclusive material, with his bulging bag set to contain the hottest dubs from the scene’s leading players.

N-TYPE, DJ/PRODUCER/LABEL OWNER,HAILS FROM THE DEEPEST REACHES OF THE UK, SURREY TO BE PRECISE.

As Dubstep rushes into 2008, it finds itself the most rapidly expanding and exciting UK urban music genre and standing at the forefront of that explosive growth is one of the scene’s most energetic and popular DJ’s… Subtle Promotions proudly presents the one, the only, DJ N-TYPE.

Croydon’s N-Type, so called at high school because his surname begins with an ‘n’ and he plays his own type of music, began DJ-ing at 14, some 12 years ago. Back then – like many dubsteppers today – his preserve was jungle. His hero was Andy C. Then the only other DJ in his year, Walsh, slipped him a tape of UK garage don EZ. Between Andy C’s high octane crowd pleasing style and EZ’s legendary flawless mixing, perhaps the seeds of N-Types sound were sown there and then. Regardless, Walsh’s EZ tape had a profound effect on N-Type: he’d caught the garage bug.

Encouraged by Hatcha and Jon from Croydon’s legendary Big Apple emporium, he submitted a mixtape to So Solid Crew’s South London pirate station, Delight FM. He soon found himself playing dark garage to unsuspected shoppers coming home on a Saturday afternoon. “I kept getting texts saying ‘what do you call this rubbish?’” laughs N-Type. He wasn’t put off. Delight soon suffered from unwanted DTI attention, so N-Type approached east London’s legendary grime station Rinse FM. This was at a time when Rinse began wholeheartedly embracing the dubstep community, throwing it a vital lifeline. N-Type never looked back. As dubstep evolved, sets soon followed at the scene’s founding club, Forward>>, and as they began to be increasingly well received by the crowd, they began to form a unique sonic identity. “I’ve always had in my mind’s eye what I wanted my sound to be” he admits.

Today the N-Type sound is fully formed. Through intense quick mixes, rapid bass wobbles and waves of mid range noise. N-Type sets are distinctive and intense. “I like jump up tunes, with a bit of energy” he explains. “I like all the sounds in dubstep - but when I’m playing out I like tunes to keep people dancing.” Through his impressive deck skills, he is both able to respond to the crowd’s demands and give them more like as a strain of the dubstep virus mutates from a skunked-out, local experimental community to an international form of ‘big room’ high-energy dance music.

N-Type: “Music is my life! Dubstep is the perfect sound for me! I think it has everything! The right speed so you can either break out on the dance floor and go mental or chill in your living room with a zoot! Dubstep is my home! ”
