Nero

October 1, 200910:00 pm

NERO have become a big name in both the Drum and Bass and Dubstep scenes, often fusing both styles of music in their DJ sets. They started with DnB, joining DJ SS’s Formation Records in the Summer of 2004. Since then Dan and Joe’s tracks have caused quite a stir, gaining huge support from DJs like Andy C, Grooverider and Friction, as well as radio airplay from Zane Lowe, Jo Whiley, Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank, Steve Lamacq and Fabio & Grooverider.
In June 2006 Nero released their acclaimed EP, “Requiem EP” on Formation Records. The EP featured 4 top tracks, Requiem, Bitch I’m Gone, Autopsy and Bad For the Brain. High Contrast included Bitch I’m Gone in his mix for the legendary Fabric Live series, Fabric Live 25.

This year sees Nero’s first release on iconic label Breakbeat Kaos. The killer track ‘Act Like You Know’, backed with Sound in Motion and a dubstep edit of the title track, has been hitting dancefloors across the world for the last year and was picked up by Fresh and Adam F.

Onto Dubstep…. Nero’s debut dubstep release, ‘This Way’, became one of the biggest dubstep tunes of 2008 and is still selling big units across the world. Since then, Nero’s consistent releases have made them one of the most talked about acts in dubstep. Their recent Remix of the Streets’ tune ‘Blinded by the Lights’ has been a massive radio hit as well as a dancefloor smasher played by DJ’s from Chase and Status and Skream to Tiesto and Diplo. Nero are currently working on their debut album… watch this space!

Antiserum
Hailing from San Francisco, California, bass scientist Antiserum has helped push West Coast dubstep to the forefront of the sound from day one. Constantly on tour from backwoods to big city in support of his heavy load of releases, he is on a quest to inspire and be inspired by the dancefloor crew. His sound skates the void of dark dub rollers and hype dance floor killers. His DJ sets, filled with high-impact mixes, precision blends, and big dubs from producers across the globe, are guaranteed to leave ravers breathless and make even the most antisocial trainspotters go from standing arms-crossed to nodding their heads to banging them. Antiserum’s diverse but always earthquaking production output is available or coming soon on such respected labels as Argon, Narco.Hz, Full Melt, Cyberfunk, Steps in Time, Muti, Hollow Point, Mode, War and True Tiger. Constantly trying to push the boundaries of production, Antiserum is a force to watch in 2009.

Centaspike
…theres a corrupt path….. leading down to the swamp…living dead Centaspike follows the stench, his footsteps beating rhythmic dark pulses, sinking down low at the edges, theres blood in the mud and he kneels …digs his mangled hands inside and slides into the abyss, descending with smile rotted and wild eyes….. in the depths the corpses are alive, evil music thrashing from their arteries..its here he festers, waiting…filthy water seeps into his ears and lungs……………his ideas are restless, restless to spread, dredge, infect, unbind, unleashed on Obscene, Fearing Fear………..

Excision

October 15, 200910:00 pm

Excision:
Taking influence from DnB, Metal, and Hip Hop, Excision is an artist who must be heard to fully believe. Combining the morphing bass lines of Drum and Bass, the aggressive energy of Metal, and the laid back vibes of hip hop, Excision’s style is incomparable.
At only 22, this young Canadian’s passion for music has already driven him to become one of the biggest Dubstep acts of North America. Anyone who has heard a set by this bad boy has walked away feeling energized and refreshed. If your lucky enough to catch a live set, expect an assault of bass heavy tracks, mixed quickly and seamlessly.
Upon the selling out and repressing of his first release, “No Escape” on his own label Rottun Recordings, it became apparent that there was a large demand for the dark side of Dubstep. This was proven to be true when Excision was asked by Electronic Music Superstars Pendulum to remix their upcoming single “Showdown.”
Look out for collaborations with North American Bass Guru Bassnectar, Pendulum, and many others ranging from DnB heavy weight SPL, to Dubstep womp master DZ. With an upcoming U.S. tour alongside Pendulum, and a set at the fabled Shambhala Music Festival among many other Canadian and U.S. dates throughout the year, Excision is one to watch.

Sick Cycle

Sick Cycle began as two separate producers, Michael West and Levon Maeder, each on their own path in music. They both attended the same school and the same audio engeering course. Michael first released “Meditation” under the name Sick Cycle in 2006, playing live on his MicroKorg Synth & Acoustic Guitar and producing the drums on PC. Michael and Levon finally collaborated together in 2007, and havent looked back since.
2009 for Sick Cycle involves their second CD album titled ‘Awakening’, this time on New Zealands own ‘Bassweight Recordings’, with some special guest remixes. Also their second New Zealand Tour - this time with Dunedins best dj crew ‘Urban Terror Unit’. Last years tour saw Sick Cycle performing alongside melbourne based producer ‘Nasty Genius’, and the results were outstanding.
Experiments with Dubstep started in 2008, and Sick Cycle were signed to Rottun Recordings, run by demonic Canadian dubstep producer ‘Excision’. ‘The Hive Mind EP’ is available now from www.beatport.com and www.digital-tunes.net. More dubstep is in the works with other labels, so stay tuned for more releases this year.
Sick Cycle also run “Corrosive Noise” dark music events in New Zealand. The events feature New Zealand musicians & producers who focus primarily on darker destructive music. Christchurch events are held at Double Happy in the central city, and in the past have featured artists like Nanotek, Organikismness, Kilotone, Habit, The Facecutters, & Urban Terror Unit.
There is no doubt there are big things on the horizon for Sick Cycle, they are passionate about what they do and are dedicated to noise.

TC (D-Style – UK)
JAKES (Hench / D-Style – UK)

www.hospitalrecords.com / www.metalheadz.co.uk / www.dstyle.co.uk / www.bassfrontiers.co.nz / www.sandwiches.co.nz

COMMIX (METALHEADZ / HOSPITAL – UK)
Commix are George Levings and Guy Brewer, a UK drum and bass duo from Cambridge UK who have had tracks signed to Goldie’s Metalheadz label and Hospital Records. If the duo doesn’t sound like the average DnB act, it probably has something to do with their mostly techno influences. They cite Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, and Carl Craig as some of the primary reasons they began making music. Constantly evolving their sound and pushing the boundaries of drum and bass 2009 has been another big year for the duo releasing a Fabriclive mix CD and singles on 31 and Headz. http://www.myspace.com/commix

TC (D-STYLE – UK)
TC stormed to success after the release of his debut album in 2007 and has not looked back since. He has all the major DJs smashing his tunes and the unprecedented support of dance music’s elite. Consistently tearing up dancefloors across the country with his signature big, bouncy, bass-heavy tunes, TC is a force to be reckoned with. Each of the singles taken from his debut album ‘EVOLUTION’ (‘Deep’, ‘Jump’, ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Where’s My Money’) topped both the BBC Radio 1’s National Dance chart as well as BBC 1Xtra’s D&B chart. With big plans and exciting projects for the future, this jump-up juggernaut is one of the brightest sparks in the scene!
http://www.myspace.com/tc

JAKES (HENCH – UK)
Jakes is many things to many people, to some he is the voice of TC’s smash hits ‘Deep’, ‘Drink’ and ‘Mindkiller’, to others he is the Daddy of Bristolian Dubstep crew H.E.N.C.H and to musical historians he is one of the most interesting vocalists that underground British music can lay claim to. Never afraid to break from tradition and roll with his own flow, Jakes’ voice has become one of the most recognisable in the game and his energetic live performances see him travelling across the globe and smacking down raves from Bristol to Boston with his inimitable style. Jakes has been gaining recognition as a producer in his own right with his huge bassline monsters featuring in the sets of all the major Dubstep players.
