Cronik Re & Copious Dub:
Cronik Re and Copious Dub are a young West Auckland based dj/mc duo who have recently exploded onto the Auckland Dubstep, Drum and bass scene. In a little over 6 months they are already being touted as the future of these genres in New Zealand. Many are attributing this to their musical talent, originality and exhilarating performances. (MC) Cronik Re at only 20 has been established on the urban scene for over 3 years now, playing with the likes of Jason Howson and fellow MC, Billy Fluid both long time veterans of the New Zealand Dubstep movement. Now having teamed up with long time friend Copious Dub big things are to be expected from the two with recent news of their debut EP to be released under their very own independent label DubJB Records in late 2010. Cronik and Copious are definitely an act not to be missed.
Echo Company:
Auckland based trio Echo Company, aka Static, Levitate and Beman, migrated north from their home town of Wellington in 2008. All have roots in the New Zealand Drum and Bass scene and have been Djing separately, clocking up flight points around the country, for over 3 years. In that time they have supported numerous International acts including Logistics, TC, Jakes, Futurebound, DC Breaks, Utah Jazz and Brookes Brothers as well as well known locals The Upbeats, Agent Alvin, Truth, Optimus Grime and Antiform. Static also placed 2nd 2 years running in the national Drum and Bass djing competition “Rumble in the Jungle New Zealand’s long running premiere Djing competition.
2009 saw a switch to the more wobbly side of things when the trio started getting heavily into Dubstep, This sparked many late nights spent in the studio trying to rewire Drum and Bass brains to 138bpm and even more noise complaints from the flat upstairs.
Aiming towards the darker side of the spectrum Echo Company’s sub heavy production has always been about having a bit of a laugh, with nothing taken too seriously. This can be heard in their creative sampling, as anything from a steel fan to a toilet plunger feature in their tracks.
