Each & Every Background

Each & Every Records was setup by Beat Merchants owners Jason Howson and Matt Shepheard in early 2009, primarily to promote New Zealand Dubstep, and take that music to market.

Jason is the leading Dubstep DJ in NZ, and has amassed a wealth of knowledge and contacts across the music industry over the last fifteen years. Under his guidance Each & Every specialises in Dubstep producers, and particularly New Zealand Dubstep artists working to get their music into a commercial space.

The first release on Each & Every Records is “Every Day Dubs Vol. I�, a compilation of seven top New Zealand artists from across the country, each with a specific style of Dubstep. This release features tunes currently signed to prestigious labels in the UK, and those from artists who are just breaking out in New Zealand, making it a showcase of where NZ Dubstep sits internationally.

The quality of Dubstep tracks being created by New Zealand producers has risen dramatically since 2006, but it’s still not financially viable for the majority of individual artists to release their music outside the digital space. Each & Every looks to bridge that gap, and offer artists the opportunity to get their music into a physical form.

Under Jason’s creative guidance we look for artists to offer us their best tunes, so that we can either take a collection and create a Mixed Compilation, or take the best two and release a 12�. Each & Every works from the standpoint that, first and foremost, it’s about the music, and the people who buy music currently only want the best.

Beat Merchants has been a champion of urban culture in New Zealand from its earliest days in 1998. Establishing a record label provides a junction between the internationalised, trend-setting elements of the Dubstep world that we sell every day, and the music being made by New Zealand artists nationwide.

That conduit is completed through the weekly showcase of Silk Cuts, a pioneering radio show that Jason has run with Sean Lyons for over ten years. Silk Cuts has given NZ Dubstep exposure to the listening public right across New Zealand, and the world, with listeners tuning is from Austria to Invercargill. It’s a constant showcase and shop window for New Zealand artists.

Tie these three together, and add a strong relationship with local distributor Rhythm Method, and you have all the elements of a strong and successful music group.

Each & Every Records is proud to present Every Day Dubs, New Zealand’s debut Dubstep Compilation. Every Day Dubs showcases seven of New Zealand’s foremost Dubstep Producers and DJ’s, capturing the foundation sound of New Zealand Dubstep in 2009.

Originating in Croydon, South London, Dubstep has rapidly found a receptive international audience with its bass driven, minimalist sound. New Zealand DJ’s and Producers were early adopters of this evolving genre, and have combined elements of Drum and Bass, UK Garage, Techno and Reggae into a uniquely kiwi sound that is quickly gaining international recognition.
